Ride + stride for churches
Saturday 14th September
St Joseph's along with a few of the Retford churches as well as some in the surrounding villages are taking part in Ride and Stride again this year. This annual fundraising event is organised by the Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust. We applied to the trust about 3 years and was given a grant by them to help us with the church repairs. Over 10 years ago they also provided us with a grant for the refurbishment of our church.
The parish participation in Ride and Stride is our way of giving back to NHCT so that they can help other churches within our county. 50% of the amount raised will also go back to St Joseph's. We encourage all our parishioners, friends and parish school community to take an active part in some way. It is not just about fundraising but also an opportunity for families or a group of friends to go outdoors to explore and learn more about the churches within Retford and the surrounding villages. You can do a sponsored walk or cycle (or by car if you want to go further a field) to a couple of participating churches. If you do not wish to walk or cycle, you could volunteer some of your time (between 10.00 am to 5.00 pm) to help us provide refreshments and also greet the riders and striders. Those who are on welcoming duty can also be sponsored for their time.

We have set up a justgiving page for the parish so please share the link with your family and friends and ask them to sponsor you. If you have already set up your own justgiving page that is fine too. Just make sure you mention St Joseph's Retford somewhere on your story. To make the activity more interesting there is also some competitions (e.g. photography competition) which you may wish to take part. Prizes will go to the winner's chosen church.
